It’s a new year that’s full of opportunities. If you are searching for a new job, you can turn this year into your year by following some key tips that will help you land your dream career and solidify your future.

These tips will help you take your search to the next level and ensure that you find the right job and the right company.

1. Create an action plan. Think about where you want to be right now, and where you want to be in the future. Create a roadmap for the next 20 years and use this map to help you narrow down your choices for companies. If you dream of running up the corporate ladder, seek out companies that are known for promoting from within.
2. Better yourself. Staying stagnant in today’s competitive marketplace is a good way to become obsolete. Keep learning, take certification courses that are related to your field and don’t be afraid to think outside your box. If there are courses that can help you become a better and more informed employee, take them.

3. Set short and long range goals for your job search. Holding yourself accountable during your search will help you become successful. Set a goal for how many resumes you want to send out, how many interviews you would like to see from those resumes and set goals for the types of employers you want to attract. Your long range goals should include where you want to be, how much you want to be earning and your plan for reaching these goals. Write them down and display them in a prominent place to keep your accountability levels high.

4. Be positive about your search. We all know how tough it can be to find a new job and it is all too easy to become discouraged. Start each day with a positive affirmation about your job search. If you’re particularly low and finding it hard to remain positive, fake it until you make it. Positivity is infectious and will make you a more attractive job candidate.

By putting these tips into practice you can ensure that you will land your dream job and you will reach your goals.
